Schedule

  • Why two concerts? We want to encourage a very large turn-out for the concert with Elisabeth, and we felt that having all of the ensembles play in an evening program would last too long for a school night.
  • The scheduling is very tight due to the extra time needed with Elisabeth, and because of Rutland's Loyalty Day parade that afternoon. Students MUST arrive at least 10 minutes early so that they are ready, with instruments out, to start their rehearsals at the times listed above.

Technicalities

  • There is still only one ticket to purchase for both concerts. They are on sale now at the Paramount (775-0903).
  • The students playing in the "first" concert will be admitted free to the "second" concert, and vice versa. All students are expected to attend both concerts.
  • Only the Repertory Strings group must wear concert attire for their dress rehearsal.
  • Concert dress for Senior Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Honors Strings and Baroque Strings:
    • Gents: Black jacket & pants, white shirt and tie (bow tie preferred)
    • Ladies: Full black dress (skirts, dresses, slacks and black top)
  • Concert Dress for Concert Band and Repertory:
    • Gents: Black pants and white shirt and tie
    • Ladies: Black skirts/slacks and white blouse
  • More information concerning dressing/warm-up rooms, where to enter, etc., will be released closer to the concert date.

Gala Concert News

  • Besides the previously received sponsorship from the Vermont Arts Council and Chittenden Bank, we have also recently received sponsorships from OMYA Inc. and the Vermont Country Store!
  • Plans are being made for an invitation-only reception following the concert. It is being planned as a profile-raiser for the orchestra, and so we are inviting our board, donors, sponsors, and many important regional civic and business leaders. We plan to have a number of students there to talk and perform, and of course Elisabeth von Trap will be there to shake hands. If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact me!
  • We are kicking up our advertising for this concert, and perhaps you may have already noticed! We recently placed ads in the Rutland Herald and Rutland Magazine, and were included in the latter's "What's Happening" page. Soon we will be printing postcards and posters; students and parents are asked to participate in distribution.
  • Jacinda Brown won this year's Anton Solo Competition Award! She will be featured with the Honor Strings at the concert and receive $1,000. Katie McCormack, Jenna Jordan, and Jenna Wang each received Honorable Mention and $75.

Attendance Reminders

  • Remember, the LRYO office must be notified through telephone, email, or face-to-face communication for an absence to be excused. If you have more than 3 un-excused absences, a conductor can require you to re-audition to remain in the orchestra.
  • It is NOT sufficient to simply tell another orchestra member, parent, or conductor that you will be absent. You must make direct contact with me.
  • Even if you are absent for a music event, you must notify the office.
  • In accordance with our handbook and student contracts, students are expected to arrive ON TIME and BE PREPARED. Please respect the time of your conductors and the other students - arrive on time.

We want to hear from you!

  • LRYO Products: We are considering having new shirts and/or bags (messenger or tote style) printed to sell to students/families, and we want to hear your opinion! Our current logo is here, but if you have a better design - show it to us!
  • Computer: If you know where/how to find a cheap/free new computer for LRYO, please contact me! Specific software programs would also help.
  • Summer Event: The LRYO Board is considering hosting a summer fun event for students and families. What do you think? Have a good idea? Please contact the office or any Executive Board Members to let us know.
